Dunlop buys Clark Shoes Australasia
MELBOURNE, Sept 5 - Diversified manufacturer Pacific Dunlop
Ltd said on Tuesday it has bought the assets of Clarks Shoes
Australasia. The company, which makes everything from tyres
to t-shirts, did not disclose how much it paid privately-owned
U.K.-based C&J Clark Ltd for the business, which has sales of
A$50 million a year.
The Clarks Shoes acquisition will expand our presence in the
premium segments of the children's and adult footwear markets,
Pacific Brands managing director Paul Moore said in a statement.
The purchase provides licensing and distribution rights to the
Clarks shoe brand, the Hush Puppies brand and ownership of
the Harrison and Gro-Shu trademarks.

The Bata Shoe Company Inc. announced during the week the
launch of a new protective workboot, the Mercury PVC. They
are available in standard and extra chemical protection.
Vietnam's leather and shoe industry is seeking to break into the
U.S. market. 60% of US footwear imports are currently Chinese
but Vietnam could provide product at the higher end of the market
which China does not.
Shoe company Grimaldi has accepted the proposal of Chilean
company Forus to develop the shoe brand Nine West into the
South American market.
The Indonesian Footwear Association has reported that exports
for the first six months of 2000 reached $631.2 million, up from
$500 million over the same period in 1999.
