I'm trying to figure out the best way to rivet the buckle end of a belt. I need to know if using a hand operated riveter (one that doesn't require punching holes first), along with cap rivets would work - the leather I want to use is fairly heavy. Any advice or input would be appreciated.

Yeas it will work! It will be slow though and lack in accuracy unless you pre-punch the belt end first. That could be accomplished with a 2 or better 4 ton punch press. Get a die made with 4 holes, one obi long hole for the prong and optionally a finishing cut for the end. Use a pilot die on your setting machine to get a rolled finish and drawn tubular rivets. Save your self the cap. That would be the cleanest and fastest way.
